This new campus is located opposite Central Queensland Universities’ first Melbourne campus at 108 Lonsdale Street.
The brief was to provide an interactive retail environment for potential and existing students in order to provide them with marketing information and knowledge about campus facilities and courses.
The street profile provided an opportunity to display campus merchandising. Bright colours, circular bulkheads and pendant lights came together to lift this space and interact with the street.
A central wall divides the space intentionally, to separate the retail activities from interview rooms and back of house space.
The administration support office is located to the rear of the space. Semi circular shaped sales desks are visually separated by vertical blades and this treatment is continued to delineate the retail activities from administration located at the rear.
A world map is used as a backdrop to emphasise the spread of other international campuses.
The entry foyer to Central Queensland Universities Melbourne campus is a busy and energetic area with a continuous stream of student traffic 7 days of the week.
A free form counter greets the students. A plasma screen is located immediately behind reception, displaying important campus news.
Beyond the main entrance the space opens up complimented by a waiting area to the left and lift lobby to the right.
Curved ottomans, changes in floor finishes and floor levels, differentiate between waiting and information spaces. The high ceiling allowed for a clever display of national flags which is designed to expose the international flavour of the University.
Externally, the buildings facade was modernised to give it a greater street profile and to make a statement to passing foot traffic. This work involved installing full height glazing across the entire frontage, new signage and street canopy.
