Australian Radio Network – Brisbane

Graham Nicholas undertook the interior design and project management of the new radio broadcast studios for ARN stations 97.3FM and 4KQ located in the Brisbane suburb of Milton.

The customer facing facilities include a secure lobby, reception with waiting area, client meeting rooms plus a boardroom and staff breakout area that can be combined into one large function room.

The secure workspace comprises a master control room, production booths, voice booths, producers’ desks that overlook three main studios, two news booths, and a mini studio for visiting DJ’s. Staff occupy a mostly open plan workspace that wraps around the perimeter of the floor to take advantage of the generous windows and views of the Brisbane River.

These state-of-the-art studios mean ARN is the first commercial radio network in the country to integrate cutting edge Audio Over IP (AOIP) technology across all on-air and production radio systems. The studios were custom designed to meet the high-level acoustic requirements of a recording booth, with all elements detailed and constructed to eliminate noise transfer.

The new premises were delivered within a compressed construction programme to accommodate ARN’s strict relocation timeframe.
